The West-Mont United Montco Boys '04, '03, '02, '01, '00 and '98 teams traveled to Virginia this past weekend (March 10th - 12th) where they competed in the prestigious Jefferson Cup and APC Showcase events. The representing teams boasted an overall proud record of 10-6-4 with four of the six teams being crowned champions/finalists.
'01 Montco Boys:
The '01 Montco Boys went 2-1-0 for the weekend. The Team's collective Defensive shape was the highlight of the weekend, especially in the second match vs. East Meadow SC (NYE). The team finished tied for 1st in their bracket but fell a bit short due to goal difference to Ironbound SC (NJ).
'02 Montco Boys:
The '02 Montco Boys went undefeated in group play scoring 9 goals and conceding 3 on their road to the final. The team unfortunately fell short in the final but held their heads high in advancing to the finals of the prestigious Jeff Cup playing at the 3rd of 9 tiers within their age group.
'03 Montco Boys:
The '03 Montco Alliance Boys went 2-1-0 for the group stages. The '03 Boys produced some great attacking movement and creative play especially in the attacking third which proved to be the difference and helped them advance to the final as they defeated Sporting CT (#3 in CT) and Wesley Chapel (#27 in NC) and a goalless drew against Boston Celtics (#9 in MA).
Sunday, provided the Championship game as they competed against Liverpool F.C International Academy (English Premier League Academy - #1 in SC). The game started very well as Montco took an early lead which was well deserved in the first 10mins as Corey Brunner converted a very calm and collected PK. 15 mins before half time we allowed Liverpool FC Academy back into the game from a set-piece which unfortunately came of the bar from a great initial save from James Needles and followed up to finish the half 1-1.
Second half commenced and again some great creativity from the boys as they showed good spells of finding the lead, Connor Lynch found the net from 25 yards with a fantastic unstoppable strike to make it 2-1 with 20mins to play. The game started to get a little stretched as both teams were feeling the effect of the weekend and it was Liverpool F.C Academy who yet again provided lots of added pressure, which was rewarded with a second goal to get back into the game. 5 mins to play at this stage and with both teams showing such class you really couldn't name a winner at this stage.
Unfortunately, Montco fell short as a penalty was rewarded in the last minutes of the game as a player collided in the box with a Montco player and a dubious penalty was rewarded. The result of the penalty was a goal which finished the game and resulted in a 3-2 loss. Despite the Score, Coach Dennis felt the boys had made him and the parents proud as the team had shown the respect and professionalism as they congratulated the winners in a very exciting final. It just shows the cohesion of the team as they gel and become a family through the birth year changes and show great team chemistry.
Well Done 2003 Montco Alliance Boys.
'04 Montco Boys:
The '04 Montco Boys went 1-1-1 for the weekend, goals from Watson and Grazianio and a clean sheet from Pozniak gave the team a 2-0 win in there opening game against Virginia Rush. In there second game the team fought for 2-2 draw with goals from Henry and last minute equalizer from Watson against a competitive Premier SC Navy. Unfortunately the team feel fell short in there final game going down to eventual finalists Wake FC but should great spirit and heart and fought all the way to the final whistle.
Congratulations to all of our boys for their success over the weekend!
The boys now wish the best of luck to our representing '05, '04 and '03 girls teams travelling to the Jefferson Cup this weekend!
